Diecézní muzeum v Litoměřicích sídlí v historických prostorách měšťanského domu č. p. 24 na Mírovém náměstí. Muzeum je společným projektem Severočeské galerie výtvarného umění v Litoměřicích a Biskupství litoměřického. Jeho stálá expozice prezentuje výběr nejvýznamnějších kulturních památek ze sbírek historického Diecézního muzea založeného v Litoměřicích již roku 1885 doplněný dalšími příklady jedinečného umělecko-historického dědictví z území litoměřické diecéze.

Nejstaršími vystavenými uměleckými díly jsou kamenné románské sochy evangelistů a kamenná hlava se zbytky polychromie z kostela sv. Petra a Pavla v Žitenicích přibližně z let 1180‒1190. Výjimečným dílem je nizozemská práce, deska Madona v Uzavřené zahradě z roku 1494 od Mistra Tiburtinské Sibylly, jejíž námět se váže k starozákonní biblické Písni Písní krále Šalamouna.

Bezkonkurenčně nejznámějším a nejvýznamnějším dílem litoměřické kolekce je však deskový obraz Svatý Antonín poustevník přemáhající ďábelské představy z let 1520‒1525 od Lucase Cranacha staršího, předního malíře německé renesance. Oboustranná dřevěná deska nese na zadní straně dílenské zpracování námětu Krista vstávajícího z hrobu. Barokní umění zastupuje obraz Svatý Matouš s andělem od významného českého malíře Karla Škréty, dále jsou ve stálé expozici vystavena díla Antona Kerna, Václava Vavřince Reinera a Matyáše Bernarda Brauna. Ve vitrínách jsou rovněž prezentovány výjimečné ukázky uměleckého řemesla – kalichy, ciboria, monstrance, ale i biskupská mitra a pontifikální rukavice.

Severočeská galerie výtvarného umění v Litoměřicích připravila projekt nové stálé expozice Diecézního muzea v Litoměřicích nazvaný Poklady litoměřické diecéze, který počítá nejen s celkovou revitalizací a reinstalací expozice, ale také s technickou obnovou objektu i návštěvnického a provozního zázemí. Součástí nové stálé expozice, která představí sbírky Diecézního muzea v moderní prezentační formě, zároveň však s respektem a úctou k jejich mimořádné kulturní a umělecko-historické hodnotě, budou atraktivní prvky ve formě videoprojekcí, interního informačního systému či mobilní návštěvnické aplikace. K podpoře realizace projektu hledá Severočeská galerie výtvarného umění v Litoměřicích s partnery, Městem Litoměřice a Biskupstvím litoměřickým, potřebné finanční prostředky.

The Diocese Museum in Litoměřice is based in a medieval townhouse at Mírové náměstí 24/16. The museum is a joint project by the North Bohemian Gallery of Fine Art in Litoměřice and the Litoměřice Bishopric, and the permanent exhibition showcases a selection of the most significant cultural treasures from the collections of the Diocese Museum, founded in Litoměřice in 1885, alongside other examples of the Litoměřice Diocese’s unique artistic and historical heritage.

The earliest works here are Romanesque stone statues of the Evangelists and a stone head with rests of polychromy from the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Žitenice, dating from approximately 1180–1190. There is also a Dutch panel painting of The Madonna in a Walled Garden from 1494 by the Master of the Tiburtine Sibyl. Based on the Old Testament Song of Solomon, this is an exceptional work.

However, the best known and most important work in the Litoměřice collection is indisputably a panel painting of Saint Anthony the Hermit Overcoming Demonic Visions (1520‒1525) by a key figure in the German Renaissance, Lucas Cranach the Elder. The reverse of this double-sided wooden panel bears a depiction of Christ Rising from the Tomb by Cranach’s workshop. Baroque art is represented by Saint Matthew and the Angel by the noted Czech painter Karel Škréta, and the permanent exhibition also features works by Anton Kern, Václav Vavřinec Reiner and Matthias Bernard Braun. The display cases present outstanding examples of craftsmanship in the form of chalices, ciboria, monstrances, a bishop’s mitre and pontifical gloves.

The North Bohemian Gallery of Fine Art in Litoměřice has produced plans for a new permanent exhibition at the Diocese Museum called Treasures from the Litoměřice Diocese. These plans envisage the exhibition’s complete revitalisation and reinstallation together with the technical restoration of the premises and facilities for visitors and staff alike. The new permanent exhibition will present the Diocese Museum’s collections in a modern form while respecting their immense cultural, artistic and historical value, and will include attractive features such as video projections, an internal information system and a mobile app for visitors. The North Bohemian Gallery of Fine Art in Litoměřice is seeking funding to implement these plans.

Das Leitmeritzer Diözesanmuseum ist in altertümlichen Räumlichkeiten des Bürgerhauses Nr. 24 auf dem zentralen Marktplatz der Stadt Leitmeritz zu finden – auf der Adresse Mírové náměstí 24, Litoměřice. Das Diözesanmuseum ist ein gemeinsames Projekt der Nordböhmischen Galerie für bildende Kunst in Leitmeritz (Severočeská galerie výtvarného umění Litoměřice) und des Bistums Leitmeritz. Die Dauerausstellung des Museums zeigt eine Auswahl von bedeutendsten Kunstwerken der alten Sammlung (das Diözesanmuseum Leitmeritz wurde bereits 1885 gegründet). Zusätzlich werden auch weitere Kunstdenkmäler ausgestellt, die das einzigartige Erbe der Kunst und Geschichte der Leitmeritzer Diözese nachweisen.

Die ältesten unter den ausgestellten Kunstwerken sind steinerne romanische Evangelisten-Figuren und ein Kopf aus Stein mit Polychrom-Resten aus der Zeit etwa 1180 bis 1190. Ein einzigartiges Kunstwerk ist das auf Holz gemalte Gemälde Maria im geschlossenen Garten – sein Autor ist der niederländische Meister der Tiburtinischen Sybille, deren Thema auf das biblische, alttestamentalische Lied der Lieder des Königs Salomo zurückzuführen ist.

Das weitaus bekannteste und bedeutendste Kunstwerk der Leitmeritzer Sammlung ist das auf Holz gemalte Gemälde Der Hl. Antonius als Eremit,  entstanden 1520-1525, von Lucas Cranach d. Ä. – dem berühmten Maler der deutschen Renaissance. Die auf beiden Seiten bemalte Holzplatte trägt auf ihrer Rückseite eine in der Werkstatt des Malers geschaffene Darstellung des auferstehenden Christus. Von Kunstwerken der Barockzeit sind das Gemälde Der heilige Matthäus mit dem Engel des berühmten böhmischen Malers Karel Škréta und – unter anderen –  auch Werke von Anton Kern, Wenzel Laurentius Reiner und Matthias Bernhard Braun in der Dauerausstellung. In den Ausstellungsvitrinen befinden sich auch hervorragende Produkte des Kunsthandwerks – Kelche, Ciborien, Monstranzen, auch Bischofsmithra und Pontifikalhandschuhe.

Die Nordböhmische Galerie der bildenden Kunst hat das Projekt einer neuen Dauerausstellung des Diözesanmuseums entworfen. Das Projekt unter dem Titel Prachtstücke der Leitmeritzer Diözese umfasst nicht nur Revitalisierung und Neuinstallation der Ausstellung insgesamt, sondern auch eine technische Neugestaltung des Hauses mitsamt der Servisräume für Besucher und Mitarbeiter. Die neue Dauerausstellung, in der die Sammlungen des Diözesanmuseums auf aktuelle Weise, jedoch mit vollem Respekt und  mit Hochschätzung ihres außergewöhnlich hohen Wertes im Hinblick auf Kultur und Geschichte präsentiert werden sollen, wird attraktive Elemente wie Videoprojektionen, internes Informationssystem und Mobile Applikation für Besucher beinhalten. Zur Umsetzung des Projektes sucht die Nordböhmische Galerie für bildende Kunst die dazu notwendigen finanziellen Mittel.
